“Embedding the Global Goals in business strategy will make companies better.”
– Hans Vestberg
On Friday, our CEO Hans Vestberg and I joined the conversation on sustainable development with global leaders and executives at the SDG Business Forum, held in conjunction with the UN Sustainable Development Summit. The event brought together executives, world leaders, heads of UN agencies, experts and more to celebrate the adoption of the SDGs and to discuss how business will continue to be an effective partner and contribute business solutions to the implementation of the new UN development framework.
Hans and climate expert Professor Johan Rockström opened the Swedish Leadership for Sustainable Development breakfast hosted by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). In the panel discussion that followed, I emphasized the importance of ICT in sustainable development. But what really got the room engaged was when I mentioned that members of our executive team have become ambassadors for the goals in order to raise awareness of the goals themselves and how ICT is enabling their achievement and how Ericsson is demonstrating this around the world. For me, leadership starts at the top, and we are certainly exemplifying that principle.
At Ericsson, we have set an additional focus and priority on our own impact on society and set top-level goals to ensure positive impacts. And we’re placing these on the same level as our shareholder, employee and customer goals – that’s how valuable we find a long-term commitment to sustainability.
As we join up with public and private partners in promoting efforts towards the Global Goals, it will be essential to integrate ICT into those efforts. We believe technology can be used as a force for good – not only for business and individuals, but also for the world.
